The Ministry of Construction has asked the investor and relevant agencies to urgently accelerate construction and disbursement for the Can Tho-Hau Giang and Hau Giang-Ca Mau component projects of the Can Tho-Ca Mau Expressway in the Mekong Delta.
According to the ministry, it has repeatedly instructed the investor and relevant agencies to address outstanding issues, mobilize additional resources, increase the number of construction teams, extend working hours and shifts, and speed up payments to ensure the 2026 disbursement target is met.
However, construction of several project components remains behind schedule.
The Can Tho-Ca Mau Expressway is more than 110km long and has a total investment of approximately VND27.523 trillion ($1.04 billion). The project is divided into two component projects: the Can Tho-Hau Giang section, which is 37.65km long with 9.25km of connecting roads, and the Hau Giang-Ca Mau section, which is 73.2km long with 16.6km of connecting roads.
On December 19, 2025, the mainline of the Can Tho-Hau Giang component project was inaugurated, while the Hau Giang-Ca Mau section was opened to technical traffic.
The Can Tho-Hau Giang and Hau Giang-Ca Mau expressway projects are key components of the eastern branch of the North-South Expressway. They provide an important connection between the Mekong Delta's regional center and other provinces in the region, helping address transport infrastructure bottlenecks in Vietnam's southernmost area.
