Starlink, the satellite internet service operated by billionaire Elon Musk's SpaceX, began offering its services in Vietnam on August 13. Users can now place a deposit to register for the service through the company's official website.
According to the website, Starlink currently offers household service packages starting at VND1,131,990 ($43.3) per month, with hardware kits priced from over VND8.65 million ($331).
In its initial phase, the Starlink satellite system has been authorized for a pilot rollout with four gateways and a maximum of 600,000 terminals, representing approximately 2.5% of the market share.
Deputy Director of the Vietnam Telecommunications Authority, Nguyen Anh Cuong, under the Ministry of Science and Technology, previously stated that Starlink is considered a complementary piece to the digital economy ecosystem. It is particularly useful in areas where traditional telecommunications infrastructure is difficult to reach, such as maritime and airspace regions, as well as in emergency response situations.
Satellite internet services will coexist with terrestrial infrastructure, such as fiber optics and 4G/5G networks operated by Viettel, VNPT, and MobiFone. This addition expands coverage to remote areas and provides more connectivity options for both individual users and businesses.
