Vietnamese airlines are adding flights and seats on domestic and international routes to meet rising travel demand during the five-day National Day holiday from August 29 to September 2.
Budget carrier Vietjet plans to add 82,000 seats, equivalent to around 400 flights, across its domestic and international network. From August 26 to September 5, the airline expects to operate more than 4,400 flights.
Additional flights will focus on routes connecting Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City with major economic and tourism hubs and popular destinations, including Da Nang, Nha Trang, Phu Quoc, Hue and Da Lat.
Meanwhile, Vietnam Airlines Group will add around 60,000 seats, bringing total capacity across its network during the holiday period to nearly 725,000 seats. The group plans to operate more than 3,600 flights, up 25% from the same period last year.
The additional capacity will be concentrated on routes linking Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City with destinations expected to see strong demand, such as Da Nang, Cam Ranh, Hue, Da Lat and Phu Quoc.
The capacity increase comes as domestic travel demand continues to rise following the peak summer season.
Together, the two major airline groups will add around 142,000 seats during the peak travel period.
