Standing Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc has called on ministries, government agencies and local authorities to strengthen efforts to combat smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods, with particular focus on e-commerce, food, pharmaceuticals and intellectual property violations.
Speaking at a nationwide online conference reviewing the first six months of 2026 and outlining priorities for the remainder of the year, the Deputy Prime Minister, who is also Head of the National Steering Committee 389, that had been established under the Prime Ministerial Decision 389/QD-TTg to lead the combat against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods, stressed that the fight against smuggling, commercial fraud, counterfeit products and intellectual property infringement must remain a continuous task for the entire political system.
He noted that the illegal importation of goods and the falsification of product origin and labeling remain widespread. The production and sale of counterfeit, substandard and untraceable goods, as well as products infringing intellectual property rights, continue to occur across the country, particularly on e-commerce platforms, posing growing risks to consumer health and market integrity.
The Deputy Prime Minister instructed relevant authorities to rigorously implement directives issued by the Government and the National Steering Committee 389. Priority areas include combating the illegal trade and transport of narcotics, smuggling of gold, foreign currencies and next-generation tobacco products, preventing the export of goods falsely labeled as Vietnamese, and strengthening enforcement against intellectual property violations.
He also urged ministries to review and improve the legal framework while accelerating digital transformation and the use of information technology to enhance enforcement against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods.
