Vietnam’s total electricity production and imports reached 203.57 billion kWh in the first seven months of 2026, with coal-fired power continuing to account for more than half of the country’s electricity supply, according to Vietnam Electricity (EVN).

The power system generated and imported 32.03 billion kWh in July alone, bringing the seven-month total to 203.57 billion kWh. EVN said it ensured sufficient electricity supply for socio-economic development and people’s daily needs during the period.

Coal-fired power generated 106.52 billion kWh, accounting for 52.3% of total output. Hydropower contributed 47.37 billion kWh, or 23.3%, while gas-fired power accounted for 16.21 billion kWh, or 8%.

Renewable energy sources generated 25.96 billion kWh, representing 12.8% of the total, with solar power contributing 16.89 billion kWh, and wind power  8.06 billion kWh.

Electricity imports accounted for 7.21 billion kWh, or 3.5%.

Regarding the power grid, EVN and its affiliated units started construction on 98 projects during the seven-month period, with 500kV projects standing at 2,  220kV at 11,  and 83 110kV at 83.

They also put 100 grid projects into operation, comprising five 500kV, 13 220kV and 82 110kV projects, strengthening the national power transmission system.
