Vietnam's National Innovation Center (NIC) and technology company Canva signed a strategic cooperation agreement on August 25 to promote the use of technology, particularly artificial intelligence (AI) and design thinking, in the general education system of the country.
The partnership is expected to give students and teachers greater access to digital design tools while supporting the long-term development of a highly skilled digital workforce.
Working with NIC, provincial and municipal education departments, the Australian Government and Australian Embassy in Vietnam, as well as strategic partners KDI Education and AI Education, Canva will implement a series of initiatives built around four key pillars.
The first is a training program for 30,000 teachers, covering topics ranging from interactive lesson design to practical applications of AI in teaching. NIC will support communications and outreach, with the program expected to establish 30,000 innovation champions in schools nationwide.
The second is a series of six national webinars scheduled for September and October 2026, expected to attract about 2,000 education managers and school leaders. The sessions will focus on digital transformation, AI applications and design thinking, helping schools create environments that encourage creativity and innovation.
The Canva Digital Citizens and Canva Creative Challenge 2026 program will target K-12 students, with training expected to reach 30,000 students during the 2026-27 school year through KDI’s network. The nationwide creative competition will be launched in September, with regional rounds across northern, central and southern Vietnam and a national final in January 2027.
Finally, NIC and Canva will explore ways to integrate design thinking, digital creativity and visual communication into existing STEM program and training activities.
